A fire broke out at Hotel Good Luck in Dingboche, a village on the trekking route to Everest Base Camp, on Friday, 30 October 2026. According to reports, all guests and staff were evacuated safely and no casualties have been reported.
What Happened
The fire started at around 11am at the lodge in ward 5 of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu district. Police in Solukhumbu said early information points to a cooking gas cylinder explosion as the possible cause, though the investigation is still ongoing.
Hotel Good Luck is one of the older teahouses in Dingboche. The fire came while the Khumbu region was seeing heavy snowfall, which had already slowed many trekkers heading up the valley.
Why Dingboche Matters to Trekkers
Dingboche sits at about 4,410 metres and is one of the busiest acclimatisation stops on the Everest Base Camp trek. Most groups spend two nights here, often hiking up Nangkartshang Peak on their rest day before continuing to Lobuche and Gorak Shep. With autumn being peak season, lodges in the village are usually full.
Advice for Trekkers in the Khumbu
- If you are booked at Hotel Good Luck, contact your trekking agency or guide to arrange another lodge in Dingboche or nearby Pheriche.
- Expect lodges in Dingboche to be busier than usual over the coming days, so book ahead where you can.
- With snowfall in the region, check trail and weather conditions with your guide before moving on, and allow spare days in your itinerary.
- Know where the exits are in your teahouse and take care with heaters and gas in rooms and dining halls.
