Essential Documents and Finances for the Manaslu Trek

  1. Valid Passport: Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date. Carry 2-3 photocopies of your passport as a backup. Additionally, keep a photo of your passport on your phone in case of loss or theft.
  2. Airline Tickets and Trip Itinerary: Carry your airline tickets and a printed copy of your trip blueprint or itinerary. If you are not carrying a smartphone, having a hard copy will be helpful.
  3. Nepal Visa: Most nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport. However, some countries require obtaining a visa from their country’s embassy or consulate prior to travel. Check the visa requirements and make necessary arrangements.
  4. Passport Size Photos: Carry 4 passport-sized photos for various purposes, such as obtaining permits, getting a local SIM card, etc.

Full Manaslu Trek Packing List:

Manaslu Circuit Treks (MCT) provides a standard and general Manaslu trek packing list for all interested Trekkers. We have added the equipment list for Trekking Peaks.

If it’s too much to carry from your home country some of the necessary equipment can be hired or bought in Kathmandu around Thamel or at Pokhara as well.

Most of the equipment is general and standard lists for all seasons while on a trek but may differ as per the season and duration of trekking and areas of your chosen trip.

For Head:

  • Sun hat or scarf
  • Light balaclava or warm fleece headgear.
  • Sunglasses and snow goggles with UV protection.

For Lower Body:

  • Undergarments
  • Hiking shorts
  • Lightweight cotton long pants
  • Light and expedition-weight thermal bottoms
  • Fleece or wool pants (seasonal)
  • Waterproof (preferably breathable fabric) shell pants

For Feet’s:

  • Thin, lightweight inner socks
  • Thick, warm wool hiking socks
  • Hiking boots with spare laces
  • Camp shoes (sneakers and/or sandals)
  • Gaiters for hiking in winter to the base camp

For Upper Body:

  • T-shirts
  • Light and expedition-weight thermal tops
  • Fleece jacket or pullover
  • Fleece Wind-Stopper jacket (optional)
  • Waterproof (preferably breathable fabric) shell jacket
  • Down vest and/or jacket *

For Hands:

  • Lightweight gloves
  • Heavyweight gloves or mittens with a waterproof shell outer (seasonal)

Other Accessories:

  • Sleeping bag rated to zero DC * (4 seasons down sleeping bags)
  • Headlamp (e.g. Petzl Zoom) with spare bulbs and batteries
  • Trekking Bags/Duffel bag *
  • Basic First Aid Kit
  • Large plastic bags – for keeping items dry inside your kit/duffel bag.
  • Daypack (approximately 2500 to 3000 cubic inches / 10-15 liters/kgs capacity)
  • Trekking Poles (optional)
  • Water bottle (2) or cameo bag
  • Toiletries (Small wash towel, Toilet paper, etc)
  • Ear Plug (who knows some people in the group are snoring) is optional.

Toiletries:

  • 1 medium-sized quick-drying towel
  • Toothbrush/paste (preferably biodegradable)
  • Multipurpose soaps (preferably biodegradable)
  • Deodorants
  • Nail clippers
  • Face and body moisturizer
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Small mirror

On Personal Hygiene:

  • Wet wipes (baby wipes)
  • Tissue /toilet roll
  • Anti-bacterial handwash

Extra Luxuries as optional:

  • Binoculars

Down Jackets, and Four Seasons Sleeping Bags are available in Kathmandu for rent or can be bought.
